Parents reveal the lies they tell their children (and the heartbreaking reasons they have to)
Parents have taken to secret sharing app Whisper to reveal the lies that they tell their children - and some of them are heartbreaking
It is a parent's prerogative to tell their children the odd lie to avoid awkward conversations or complicated explanations.
However, in confessions shared online, mothers and fathers prove that bending the truth can be far more serious.
In a new thread on secret sharing app, Whisper, parents have revealed the most shocking lies they have told their offspring.
Making the most of the app's anonymity settings the fibbing mums and dads held back no details of their white lies.
Many mothers admitted that they had lied about being busy in order to force people into baby sitting.
One mother said: 'I lied and said I had an interview just to get my mom to watch my daughter for a few hours.'
Another mother seeking some time alone wrote: 'I lied that I'm working tomorrow so I can drop off my kids, skip the family time and have a me day.'
In other darker admissions, several mothers revealed how they told their kids their fathers weren't coming back after a break up.
One woman explained: 'When my ex husband left and never came back I told my kids he was a secret agent away on a mission. I write letters from him once a month and mail them to the kids.
Another heartbreaking admission read: 'I told my son that daddy will be home soon and he got all excited. He passed away a month ago. I'm not strong enough to say that again to our son.'
Other parents made excuses for their partners to shield their children from adult life.
One woman said: 'I lied to my son and told him daddy ate bad food, I didn't want him to know his daddy was drunk.'
In several distressing entries parents shared the things they had sacrificed in order to raise their children.
One parent admitted: 'My kids don't know that I go without eating sometimes so they have enough.'
Another said: 'My children don't know that we are on welfare and that Christmas comes from donated toys.'
In a touching confession a mother added: 'My daughter doesn't know that when I drove her to college I got lost on purpose just to spend more time with her.'
